Wherever you live, you probably know some local river. Historically, people settled down and built cities near rivers, because rivers give people fresh water and fish to eat. In many countries people still use rivers for bathing and rivers are important for irrigation and power generation. Some rivers are very long: Nile River in Africa or Amazon River in South America. There are so many rivers in the world! Some rivers are very famous and have a long history, for example Ganges River in India.
If you know a small river nearby, it is a great place to enjoy the view and even have a picnic. The river that flows near the pace I live is called The Grand River. It is located in Southwestern Ontario, Canada. It flows through several cities and empties into Lake Erie.
Unlike lakes, rivers are always on the move. Are you fascinated by rivers?
